Derby Climbing Festival 2008

After opening in May 2008 Alter Rock Climbing Centre in Derby hosted its first climbing competition on Saturday the 9th of August. This event was part of the inaugural Derby climbing festival organised in conjunction with The Orange House.

Regulars had the opportunity to hone their skills in one of the two, Steve McClure master class sessions on Friday evening, before the competition on Saturday. Quality routes set by Steve McClure, Rich Mayfield and mark Stevenson ensured there was plenty for competitors to get to grips with, while the day was rounded off with a prize ceremony and a motivational lecture about Steve’s recent ascent of Rhapsody E11.

A fantastic time was had by all, competitors and spectators alike. The centre was complimented on its relaxed informal atmosphere ideally suited to novices and those new to competition climbing. Although there were not many competitors there are plans for another competition in November keep checking back for details.
