DofE – Duke of Edinburgh Awards

Do you run the DofE Awards scheme for your school, college or youth group?

Here at Alter Rock we have activities and opportunities for young people that can fit within the criteria for the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards.

Physical Activity

Indoor climbing is a new challenge for most young people and fulfils all the requirements of a physical activity for DofE. We run regular sessions using the NICAS (National Indoor Climbing Achievement Scheme) structure so that people can progress up the different grades of skill level. Certificates are awarded at each level.

Or, you can set your own challenges according to whether you are aiming for your Bronze, Silver or Gold DofE Award.

Volunteering

We are happy to take young people for a placement where they can learn how the centre operates. They can gain valuable customer service skills, learn to look after our equipment and understand how the different styles of climbing problems are set.

Before volunteering, it would be best if they had climbed as part of their physical activity challenges as then they will have a deeper understanding of climbing and get more out of the placement.

Our city centre location in Derby and easy access to public transport makes Alter Rock a good choice for independent young people to learn new skills leading to their DofE Awards.

If you or one of your students would like to try climbing or bouldering as part of their DofE Award then give us a call on 01332 367200 (during our opening hours) or email.
